LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Roger Victory on Thursday supported President Donald Trump’s strategy on North American trade, which largely preserves the landmark United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement that was signed by President Trump during his first term in office.
Victory was a staunch supporter of the USMCA, introducing a resolution in the Michigan Senate urging Congress to approve the agreement and attending the signing with President Trump at the White House.
“The USMCA is a critical piece of the North American trade strategy for the Trump administration and strengthens the corridor of prosperity between the United States and Canada,” said Victory, R-Hudsonville. “I am thankful to President Trump for preserving this key agreement, which provides stability for critical Michigan industries and allows us to continue to ensure fair trade with our North American partners for Michigan and the United States.”
On April 2, President Trump issued a 10% global baseline tariff to help ensure fair trade globally and preserve our national security. The United States’ closest trading partners, Canada and Mexico, were exempt from the new global baseline tariffs and continue to be subject to USMCA standards for goods not subject to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act order issued on Feb. 1.
