Hoitenga discusses recovery efforts with energy CEOs during Gaylord ‘Storm Camp’ visit

LANSING, Mich. Sen. Michele Hoitenga on Wednesday met with Northern Michigan energy leaders on the ground in Gaylord as crews continue efforts to restore power to residents affected by last week’s devastating ice storm that crippled the region.

Presque Isle Electric & Gas CEO Allan Berg and Great Lakes Energy CEO Shaun Lamp provided Hoitenga with valuable updates on their grid rebuild and restoration efforts resulting from the ice storm. The camp was erected to provide rest, showers, and warm meals for the line workers who are working around the clock to restore power.

“I was deeply moved by the dedication of the teams at Great Lakes Energy and Presque Isle Electric,” said Hoitenga, R-Manton. “Shaun Lamp and Allan Berg gave me a firsthand look at the monumental task they’re facing, and it is clear that their commitment to restoring power as soon as possible is unwavering.”

Hoitenga praised the tireless efforts of utility crews, emergency responders, and volunteers who have been working around the clock to rebuild the power grid and assist those in need. As a gesture of appreciation, she brought donuts for the power line contractors stationed at the Otsego County Fairgrounds.

“This isn’t just about restoring power — it’s about rebuilding lives and ensuring our rural communities have the resources they need to recover,” Hoitenga said. “As these recovery efforts move forward, I will continue to monitor the situation and advocate for any resources that may be needed in the future to ensure a quick and uninterrupted recovery.”

Hoitenga’s office has launched a casework hotline form to help connect constituents with resources and provide answers to questions about ongoing relief efforts.
