Bumstead on budget: Rein in overspending, invest in Michigan’s future, provide tax relief

LANSING, Mich.Senate Appropriations Minority Vice Chair Jon Bumstead, R-North Muskegon, issued the following statement Wednesday in response to the governor’s fiscal year 2026 budget proposal to the Legislature:

“As we move forward in the budget process, we must remain mindful of the daily realities of the many families and seniors across Michigan who continue to struggle against rising costs of living. Michiganders cannot afford more government and higher taxes.

“Budgets are statements of priorities, and the Legislature now has a real opportunity before it — with shared power between the House and Senate — to rein in overspending and invest in our common goals, including roads and infrastructure, education, and public safety. Responsibly investing in Michigan’s future and lowering taxes to help working individuals and families must be our priorities.”
